The Mexico Under-20 National team needed a late Kevin Gutierrez free-kick to seal an emphatic 2-1 victory over Uruguay at the U-20 World Cup on Wednesday.

After a goalless first-half, Pachuca winger Hirving Lozano scored in the 71st minute to put Sergio Almaguer’s side in front.

But Uruguay followed up with a goal of their own 12 minutes later after Mathias Suarez turned home a rebounded effort following a set-piece situation from the right-hand side.

In the 90th minute, Erik Cabaco was sent off for a second yellow, leaving Mexico with a dangerous free-kick just outside the box.

Kevin Gutierrez capped off the opportunity with a brilliant free-kick to win it for the Mexicans in the dying minutes.

With the result, the young El Tri earned their first three points of the tournament and will play for a place in the knockout stage against Serbia, on Friday.
