Pachuca’s Liguilla hopes were given a huge blow as they lost 3-2 to Santos Laguna at the Estadio Hidalgo on Saturday night.
The Tuzos began the night in the last and final Liguilla spot, but defeat to Santos on Saturday saw Diego Alonso’s men move out of a top-eight position.
The result, on the other hand, temporarily lifted Santos to seventh in the table with one game to go in the regular season.
Junior Sornoza gave the hosts the lead late in the first-half , but Nestor Calderon struck twice from the penalty spot to put Santos Laguna 2-1 up.
Alonso Escoboza made it 3-1 from a breakaway as Erick Gutierrez late goal was not enough to see Pachuca lose their first league game in six matches.
Pachuca’s last regular season game will be against Veracruz, while Santos Laguna will play their deciding match against Puebla.
