Roque Santa Cruz scored two goals in under 15 minutes as Cruz Azul handed Tigres a 2-0 defeat at the Estadio Azul on Saturday afternoon.
Confidence was low for Cruz Azul following their 1-o defeat to local rivals, Club America, last weekend, but the Paraguayan international fired a header into the back of the net after only four minutes to open the scoring early for the hosts.
Ten minutes after conceding, Tigres gave away a penalty, and there was little Nahuel Guzman could do as Roque Santa Cruz struck his second of the night from the spot.
Tigres, who came into this game after giving away a two-goal lead against River Plate midweek, failed to produce much, and chances were few and far for the visitors.
With the result, Cruz Azul surpassed Tigres in the league table with 22 points in 13 matches.
In contrast, Tigres suffered their sixth defeat of the season ahead of the Clasico Regiomontano against Monterrey next weekend.
