Ariel Nahuelpan came off the bench to score two goals against his former team as Pachuca defeated ten-man Pumas 3-1 at the Estadio Hidalgo on Saturday night.
Prior to today’s defeat, Pumas had recorded four successive league victories since their 3-0 defeat to Tigres in week 9.
Meanwhile, with the result, Pachuca moved into 7th in the league-table and in liguilla position.
The first-half was characterized by a number of rough tackles, but Pachuca found a breakthrough in the 31st minute.
Hirving Lozano’s diagonal pass was received by Cristian Penilla. The Ecuadorian unleashed a shot from the edge of the box and slotted past Alfredo Saldivar.
But Pumas began the second-half with an instant response. Matias Britos’ blazing header from a Javier Cortes free-kick leveled the score for the visitors.
In the 62nd minute, substitute Ariel Nahuelpan stepped in after only seconds in the match and scored the go-ahead goal through a header from an Ayovi corner.
Pumas’ bad fortune continued soon after when Silvio Torales was sent off for a second yellow.
Despite the man disadvantage, Pumas were dictating the pace of the game, and Luis Fuentes hit the crossbar with a long-distance rocket.
However, in the 80th minute, Dario Veron appeared to have shoved Ariel Nahuelpan inside the box. The same Nahuelpan stepped up and drilled the penalty into the lower corner to make the win safe.
