Ignacio Piatti and Oribe Peralta were on the score-sheet as Montreal Impact earned a 1-1 draw at the Estadio Azteca in the first-leg of the CONCACAF Champions League Final on Wednesday.
The Impact came into this game as the first Canadian team to reach the final of a CONCACAF club tournament, and made it count after only 16 minutes.
Ignacio Piatti received the ball inside the box and hammered towards Moises Munoz’s near post to give the Impact a surprise lead at the Azteca.
But in the closing seconds of the second-half, Oribe Peralta equalized off a Rubens Sambueza cross to salvage the draw for the Mexican-side.
The Canadians took home an important away goal ahead of the second-leg to be played at the Montreal Olympic Stadium on April 29 and only need a goalless draw to win the trophy.
