Veracruz missed their opportunity to ensure survival from relegation with three weeks to go in the season as they drew 1-1 with Chiapas at the Estadio Victor Manuel Reyna on Friday.
Carlos Reinoso’s side had the better first-half and took the lead before the break through a Vicente Matias Vuoso own goal.
But Aviles Hurtado scored his seventh goal of the season with 12 minutes to go in the game to keep Chiapas’ faint hopes of reaching the Liguilla alive.
With the result, Veracruz will have to wait another week to celebrate their survival in the Liga MX but are still on course to qualify to the Liguilla.
On the other hand, a defeat could have spelt an end to Chiapas’ Liguilla aspirations.
