Bayern Munich earned their place in the semifinals of the Champions League by defeating FC Porto 6-1 at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday. Hector Herrera and Diego Reyes started, but Reyes was subbed off in in the 33rd minute.
With FC Porto taking the first-leg with a 3-1 victory, Pep Guardiola’s men needed just 45 minutes to turn the tie around.
Both teams were missing key players, and Diego Reyes made a surprise start for the Portuguese-side, filling in at right-back.
But it wouldn’t be a night for Reyes to remember as Thiago, Jerome Boateng, and Robert Lewandowski got three quick goals for Bayern Munich in under 30 minutes.
With FC Porto boss, Julen Lopetegui, taking Reyes off in the 33rd minute, Thomas Muller and Lewandowski added to Porto’s misery.
In the second-half, Porto found their feet and got a consolation goal through Jackson Martinez. Hector Herrera sent a cross from the right-hand side and the former Chiapas player was there to finish it off.
Xabi Alonso completed the perfect night for Bayern with a brilliant free-kick in the closing seconds to end the game at 6-1 (7-4 agg.)
