Marco Fabian scored an 89th minute winner as Chivas jumped to the top of the table with a 1-0 victory over Leon at the Estadio Omnilife on Sunday.
The Estadio Omnilife’s 100th game welcomed a Leon side short of confidence after conceding five goals in each of their last two games.
On the other hand, Jose Manuel de la Torre’s side had only conceded once in their first five home games the season.
It was an entertaining affair in the opening quarter of an hour, with both sides exchanging possession back and forth.
Carlos “El Gullit” Peña came close in the 23rd minute when his header struck the post from a Jose Maria Cardenas cross.
Leon forced the hosts to a number of defensive saves and enjoyed the clearer opportunities of the first-half.
However, Chivas dominated the majority of the second-half and looked more likely to get the breakthrough when Marco Fabian hit the crossbar from a shot just outside the box.
In the 88th minute, the Rebaño Sagrado pushed forward for the winner.
Former Chivas player, Jonny Magallon, performed bad clearance inside the box. Marco Fabian gathered and hit a one-time shot past William Yarbrough to snatch Chivas another emphatic win at home.
With the result, Chivas moved closer to avoiding relegation and advanced to the very top of the Liga MX table with 24 points in 13 matches.
Meanwhile, Leon suffered their seventh defeat of the season and remain in the penultimate position in the table.
