Cuauhtemoc Blanco said goodbye to his storied Mexican league career in a 1-0 defeat to Atlas at the Estadio Universitario BUAP on Saturday.
Cuauhtemoc Blanco will play one last game with Puebla in Tuesday’s Copa MX final against Chivas before launching his career as a politician.
Puebla fell behind on the stroke of half-time through a Cristian Suarez goal and never recovered as La Franja remain in last in the relegation table with three games to play in the season.
The result also meant that Veracruz and Chivas are mathematically safe from relegation, and Leones Negros serves as Puebla’s only remaining rival in the relegation fight.
Meanwhile, Atlas obtained an important three points that keeps them in a Liguilla position, and will travel to Colombia midweek for their deciding Copa Libertadores clash against Independiente Santa Fe.
