Mario Osuna scored a 90th minute winner to give Queretaro a 1-0 victory over Chivas at the Estadio Corregidora on Friday.
As the game looked likely to be heading for a goalless draw, Osuna found the back of the net with a long-range strike to give Victor Manuel Vucetich his first victory in charge of Los Gallos Blancos.
For Chivas, the defeat keeps them two places above relegation, having lost their first league game in four matches.
Chivas were often the better team in the first-half, and in the 25th minute, Omar Bravo wasted a good opportunity to give Chivas the lead when he dinked the ball inches wide of the post from a superb Marco Fabian pass.
Chivas’ initiatives continued, and five minutes from the break, Israel Castro had a powerful shot saved from Queretaro goalkeeper, Tiago Volpi.
But there was a lot less coherence to Chivas’ game in the second half, and after two minutes, George Corral provided a moment of danger for the hosts when the former Americanista dragged a shot wide of the near post.
For most of the second half, both teams were organized in defense and looked more than content to play for the draw.
When the game looked to be as good as over, however, Mario Osuna launched a rocket past Luis Michel and into the net to give Queretaro the win as the Estadio Corregidora erupted into late celebration.
