The Strongest scored a valuable away goal on Tuesday night, drawing 1-1 with Monarcas Morelia, to edge closer to the group stage of the Copa Libertadores.

With less than 10 minutes gone, the Bolivian side took the lead when Pablo Escobar scored from a free-kick.

Morelia nearly hit back with Joel Huiqui in the 26th minute. The Mexican defender forced a goal-line save from Jair Torrico after sending a powerful header towards goal from a corner.

In the 35th minute, Mauro Cejas delivered a cross from the right-wing, and David Depetris headed in to equalize for Morelia.

The hosts resumed the game after the break with the initiative, but their bid to score a winner after 90 minutes failed.

Both teams will meet again next Tuesday in the second leg in La Paz. Morelia can advance directly to the group stage with any victory or a draw of two goals or higher. If tied 1-1, a penalty-shootout will be used to determine the winner.
