Pachuca earned their third victory of the season with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Leon at the Estadio Hidalgo on Saturday night.
The Tuzos went ahead through an Erick Gutierrez goal before doubling the lead following a Juan Ignacio Gonzalez own-goal.
Martin Bravo got one back for the visitors through a 64th minute goal from the penalty spot, but Pachuca held on to close out the victory.
The visitors set early tone of the contest when Carlos Alberto Peña and Elias Hernandez came close to testing Pachuca goalkeeper, Oscar Perez, from distance.
In the 23rd minute, Elias Hernandez play a perfectly weighted cross to Miguel Sabah, who ran behind Pachuca’s backline.
Sabah sent a low header to the near post that looked to have crossed the goal-line in its entirety, but the ref saw otherwise and failed to make the right call.
Pachuca made a positive start to their second half, and in the 53rd minute, Erick Gutierrez unleashed a one-touch volley from a Damm deflected cross to put the hosts ahead.
The Tuzos doubled their lead on the hour mark.
William Yarbrough failed to handle a cross from the left before Gutierrez back-heeled towards goal. Bottinelli was there to block the shot, but his subsequent clearanced bounced off Juan Ignacio Gonzalez and into the back of the net.
Five minuets later, however, Martin Bravo scored from the penalty spot to get one back for Leon.
The visitors started to push Pachuca back as a quick breakaway led to a “Gullit” Peña shot coming close to the post.
But Leon’s late chances to equalize had gone, and at the final whistle, Pachuca held on to claim all three points at home.
