The Mexico U-17 national team made their debut in the CONCACAF U-17 Championship as they defeated Panama 3-1 at the Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano on Saturday afternoon.

Claudio Zamudio opened the scoring after only nine minutes before Mexico goalkeeper, Abraham Romero, produced a brilliant save from the spot.

In the 25th minute, an own goal from Emmanuel Chanis doubled the lead for the Mexicans, but Ronaldo Cordoba pulled one back for Panama a few minutes later.

Eduardo Aguirre headed Mexico into a 3-1 lead in the 54th minute, and although it was far from a dominant performance, the young Mexican side held on to the final whistle for their first three points of the tournament

El Tri’s next group game will be against Saint Lucia on Tuesday.
