Hector Moreno started in Espanyol’s 3-2 defeat to Sevilla but left the match injured in the 34th minute. This was the second injury to a Mexican international after Carlos Vela left injured in the 17th minute of Real Madrid’s 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad on Saturday evening. The severity of both player’s injuries is unknown.
Giovani and Jonathan Dos Santos started for Villarreal in the thrilling 3-2 defeat to Barcelona. The Bluegranas came back from a goal-down twice to secure all three points at the Camp Nou. Giovani Dos Santos gave an assist in the 51st minute when he burst through the right-wing and laid the ball off to Vietto, who put the ball past Bravo for Villarreal’s second.
In Italy, Rafa Marquez made his return from injury in Hellas Verona’s 2-1 defeat to Palermo. The Mexican captain at the last World Cup played all 90 minutes as Hellas surrendered a 79th minute goal to complete Palermo’s turnaround after taking an early lead.
Meanwhile, in Portugual, Ulises Davila made his league debut with Vitoria de Setubal in their 1-1 draw against Gil Vicente. The Mexican came in as a substitute in the 55th minute.
Lastly, Hector Herrera played 82 minutes and scored a goal in FC Porto’s 5-0 victory over Paços de Ferreira. In the 46th minute, Jackson Martinez dribbled past two defenders and laid the ball off into the middle of the box. Herrera was there to put it home for Porto’s fourth with a delightful finish. Porto remain second in the league table behind league leaders Benfica.
