Leon continued their push towards the Liguilla on Saturday night as they fought back from 1-0 down to defeat Santos Laguna 2-1.

The game was a fast paced, end to end contest with Leon coming out on top thanks to Santos being wasteful in front of goal.

On the other hand, Leon controlled the majority of the game with Marchesin coming up with some great saves to keep the hosts out.

The Match:

Santos took the lead in the 23rd minute thanks to a Carlos Izquierdoz goal as an Aldrete free-kick rebounded of Jose Maria Cardenas and fell to Izquierdoz, who converted from close range.

Rodolfo Salinas came close to doubling Santos’ lead as he crept around the Leon defense at the back post to force an outstanding save from Yarbrough in the 40th minute.

Santos continued to keep Leon out and tried to limit their chances and play on the counter.

In the second half, Andres Renteria came close to giving Santos daylight but was denied by the woodwork. Renteria again looked certain to double their lead but a superb last ditch tackle from Canuto denied the Santos winger.

Leon’s pressure eventually paid off as Jonathan Bottenelli equalised with a free header from a Leon corner. It was poor defending from Santos as the Argentine left his man and headed home from 6 yards out.

As the fourth official indicated a minimum of four added minutes, the game seemed likely to end all square; that was until the ball fell to ‘Gallito’ Vazquez on the edge of the box before the Mexican international drilled the ball home into the top corner to give Leon all three points as Santos rue missed chances to bring all three points back to Torreon.
