Jürgen Damm celebrated his best game for Pachuca since returning from injury as the Tuzo’s defeated Atlas 2-1 at the Estadio Jalisco on Saturday night.
The former Estudiantes Tecos player helped German Cano score Pachuca’s first before doubling the lead himself early in the second half.
Atlas, with one eye on their Copa Libertadores clash against Independiente Santa Fe, got one back through Rodrigo Millar.
But Hirving Lozano added a third, after another impressive Jürgen Damm run, to seal the game for the visitors.
Pachuca took a deserved lead right before the half-hour mark when Jürgen Damm dribbled and got in around the back of Walter Kannemann. Damm, inside the area, crossed into the crowded center for German Cano to sweep home from a few yards and score Tuzos’ first.
It took Atlas until the start of the second half to show any urgency, but their insistence was cut short seconds later.
Junior Sornoza set up Jürgen Damm, who weaved past Federico Vilar and finished into the empty net to double the lead.
Pachuca looked in the mood for more and nearly got a third when Sornoza unleashed a shot from the edge of the box, but his shot went inches wide of the post.
Three minutes later, Millar scored on a rebound after Keno’s shot rattled Oscar Perez’s crossbar.
In the 75th minute, the hope instantly went out of Atlas when Hirving Lozano clinched all three points for Pachuca.
The Rojinegros committed men forward and Jürgen Damm took advantage. After dribbling past Edgar Castillo, Damm turned provider for the second time, assisting the incoming Lozano.
In the 84th minute, Atlas thought they had pulled one back. Carlos Ochoa received the ball in the left side of the penalty box before finishing past “Conejo” Perez. However, the referee on the sideline raised his flag for a correct offside call.
At the final whistle, the score would stand at 3-1 with the visitors deservedly earnings all three points.
