Club America scored five goals past Chiapas as Matosas’ men delivered their most dominant victory of the season at the Estadio Azteca.
America were without Carlos Darwin Quintero, who was serving his first game of a two-match ban for an incident in last week’s game.
Meanwhile, with the defeat, Chiapas remain without a win away from home this season- where they haven’t lost a game in 16 matches.
Osvaldo Martinez put Las Aguilas ahead on five minutes with a brilliant long-distance shot from near the halfway line.
Miguel Samudio doubled America’s lead in the 32nd minute, with Dario Benedetto adding a third before the break.
Oribe Peralta rolled in two more in the second half to complete the champion’s commanding victory.
It was a bright start for America and the hosts took the lead on five minutes. Martinez launched an expert shot from close to the center circle, over the Chiapas goalkeeper, and to the back of the net to score what is sure to be one of the goals of the season.
America remained on the attack, and in the 32nd minute, Benedetto set afloat a breakaway before laying the ball off to Samudio. The ex-Cruzeiro man kept his composure before rifling a left-footed shot across Oscar Jimenez.
Three minutes from the half, Martinez sent a long pass over the Jaguares back-line, which allowed Benedetto to race free. The Argentine sent a low shot to the far post to add a third.
After the break, America took no time to get into their flow and added a fourth to their lead on 55 minutes.
Benedetto found himself with space, feeding Peralta in the center. Oribe took a small touch before firing a right-footed finish into the bottom corner.
America were cruising and Peralta scored a second 20 minutes later.
Cristian Pellerano sent a through ball to Peralta. The gold-medalist let loose a lovely flick to cap off a perfect afternoon for the champions.
Club America’s next game is in the Clasico Capitalino against Pumas UNAM next week. On the other hand, Chiapas return to Tuxtla Gutierrez to face Tigres.
