Real Sociedad forward and Mexico international, Carlos Vela, is to undergo surgery after suffering a torn meniscus on his right knee.
Vela exited the game against Real Madrid in the 17th minute of La Sociedad’s 4-1 defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu and is expected to miss at least six weeks of action.
A statement released on Monday by La Real Sociedad read, “After partaking in consultations with specialists to evaluate the best therapeutic option, we have opted on surgery.”
“Carlos will be operated on today by Dr. Mikel Sanchez. After the surgery we will release a new medical report.”
It is expected that Vela will make a full recovery in time to play for Mexico in this year’s 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
