Club America came twice from behind to earn a 2-2 draw against Morelia at the Estadio Morelos on Friday night.

It was a hard fought game from the hosts, who like in their previous two home games merited the point.

Paolo Goltz got things moving when he headed dangerously wide from a corner after six minutes.

Club America had the majority of first-half possession, but in the 32nd minute, Monarcas reacted to take the lead. Marco Antonio “Pikolin” Palacios met a corner from Carlos Adrian Morales to power a header past a helpless Moises Muñoz.

But it didn’t take long for the champions to hit back, and five minutes later, a dangerous cross from Carlos Darwin Quintero provided Dario Benedetto with a header to equalize the score.

In the second half, Depetris had Morelia’s first chance when he picked up a deflection inside the box but his shot went inches wide.

In the 66th minute, Morales spread play to Carlos Guzman on the right-wing. The 20-year-old youth international fired home towards Muñoz’s near post to put Morelia ahead.

But after five minuets again, America were back in it. Quintero executed a free kick on the left-wing that Goltz headed down to the center of the box for Pablo Aguilar. Aguilar had the simplest of shots from close range to make things 2-2.

With Morelia on the defensive, Club America had one last chance to earn all three points in the closing seconds of the game. Benedetto launched right-footed shot into the top right corner, but the woodwork denied the champions of a late win.
