Veracruz and Cruz Azul settled for a goalless draw in an underwhelming Friday night at the Estadio Luis “Pirata” de La Fuente.

The game was played  under unrelenting wind, and in the 15th minute, the weather may have played a factor when Edgar Andrade swirled a free-kick unto goal before Jesus Corona got a hand on it.

In the 23rd minute, Cruz Azul narrowly missed the chance to break the deadlock when Formica’s free-kick forced a save from Meliton Hernandez.

It was the Tiburones Rojos who ended the half on top, but they failed to make the best out of their ball possession before the interval.

In the second half, both teams offered very little in attack and deserved nothing from the game.

At the final whistle, the draw kept both teams in the top half of the table with 7 points each.
