Dayro Moreno scored a goal for Tijuana to beat the champions, Club America, 1-0 in action of week 2 of the Liga MX.
Minutes into the game, America looked to make a strong start with Arroyo bursting into the edge of the box before his curling effort went wide of Tijuana’s goal.
In the 12th minute, Gabriel Hauche, the Argentine forward playing among the home fans for the first time, played clear inside the box but had his shot saved from Muñoz in Tijuana’s first attempt at goal.
Ten minutes later, Oribe Peralta danced his way through several Xolos defenders with a couple fake shots, but Saucedo was there to make the save.
In the 35th minute, Muñoz had another superb intervention when Dayro Moreno dribbled his way into the box before dragging a shot at goal.
Tijuana had one more chance before halftime, and they would make the champions pay. Hauche dashed forward on a breakaway before cleverly laying it off with his head to Moreno, whose shot found the back of the net to put Tijuana ahead.
Gustavo Matosas’s men were in need of a reply, and six minutes into the second half, Javier Gandolfi tripped an America player inside the box for a penalty. It was the almost the perfect response, but Tijuana goalkeeper, Cirilo Saucedo, made a great save to deny Peralta the equalizer.
In the 68th minute, Dayro Moreno nearly got his double when he combined excellently again with Hauche, but Muñoz made his third big intervention of the night.
In the closing stages, America pushed forward with no real luck, and at the final whistle, it was relief for the home fans as Tijuana get their first three points of the season. On the other hand, it was Matosas’ fourth defeat in five visits to the Estadio Caliente.
