Gustavo Matosas started his reign as new Club America manager with an impressive 5-2 victory over Monterrey in a friendly.
The “Azulcrema” goals came from Moises Velasco, Darwin Quintero, Dario Beneddetto, Francisco Rivera, and Cristian Pellerano.
On the other hand, Lucas Silva and Candido Ramirez scored for Monterrey.
It didn’t take long for the new-look America to get on the scoreboard. Within a minute of play, Moises Velasco capitalized on an Oribe Peralta diagonal cross to get the champions flying.
It didn’t take long for Rayados to bounce back, and before the 10th minute mark, Lucas Silva equalized.
Monterrey took initiative of the game, and Candido Ramirez took advantage of that with a long a distance golazo.
The second half started with a flurry of substitutions, and it was America who would benefit the most. In the 53rd minute, Darwin Quintero scored his first goal as a Club America player.
But Quintero wasn’t going to be the only new Americanista scoring today, and in the 68th minute, Dario Benedetto scored a volley to put America ahead.
Two minutes later, Rivera scored a fourth.
With the game already in the bag, Cristian Pellerano curled in a free kick to end the scoring at 5-2.
Club America will now open the Clausura 2015 versus Club Leon on Saturday. Meanwhile, Monterrey will do the same against Leones Negros on Sunday.
