It was an impressive outing by the Mexican Jonathan Dos Santos in Villarreal’s 1-0 victory versus Atletico Madrid; Raul Jimenez, on the other hand, saw the game from the stands. The Yellow Submarine’s victory ended a 21 game undefeated streak by the Madrid side at home.

Both teams went to the break scoreless, and a missed penalty call by the referee in favor of Villarreal brought plenty of discussion for the break. At the start of the second half, another referee blunder cost Atletico Madrid what seemed like a legitimate goal.

Jonathan Dos Santos would have an energetic 90 minutes, playing on the right-side of the midfield, but it was the Argentine Luciano Vietto who stole the show. The forward has been in sensational form for Villarreal since arriving from Racing and gave them the win 6 minutes from time.

Both Villarreal and Atletico Madrid will now embark to their Copa del Rey return legs before playing one last round ahead of the Christmas break.
